CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing significant improvements in camera technology, performance, and battery capacity. Both devices boast a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera equipped with a variable aperture. Additionally, they incorporate the latest A20 Pro chip alongside an upgraded vapor chamber cooling system. The Dynamic Island has been redesigned to display more detailed information. Preorders commence on September 12, and sales will begin on September 18 across over 65 countries and regions.

The newly designed Main camera features six laser-cut blades that enable it to shift between four aperture settings. Users now have the ability to adjust depth of field and light intake within the Camera app. Pro controls have been expanded to include manual options for shutter speed and white balance. A histogram feature assists users in monitoring exposure levels prior to capturing photos or recording videos. Photographic Styles have been updated to include controls for texture and grain. Furthermore, the phones support post-capture Cinematic effects in videos shot at up to 60 frames per second.

Apple introduces the Reference Image, a new tool for verifying whether photos have been altered after shooting. Reference mode captures signed sensor data when a user takes a shot with the Main camera. Private Cloud Compute then processes this information into a reference image. Users can compare this reference with the original photo within the Photos app. Apple also plans to add support for SynthID later in 2026. The company states that image metadata will serve as an additional method to identify AI-generated or edited images.

    Variable aperture enhances camera versatility

The A20 Pro chip is built on a 2-nanometer process, combining a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU delivers performance improvements of up to 40% compared to the A19 Pro. The new processor also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, totaling 32 cores. A redesigned thermal system connects the chip more directly to a larger vapor chamber, which has three times the surface area of its predecessor. Apple emphasizes that this setup boosts sustained performance during intensive tasks.

Battery life has been extended on both models, especially on versions without physical SIM slots. The iPhone 18 Pro can provide up to 36 hours of video playback, while the Pro Max reaches up to 45 hours under similar conditions. Wired accessories can charge the Pro model to 50% in approximately 15 minutes. The eSIM-only variants utilize space that previously housed the physical SIM tray. These models are set to launch in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

Siri AI debuting with iOS 27

Running on iOS 27, the iPhone 18 Pro series supports the newest Apple Intelligence features. Siri AI enters beta testing on September 14 for supported devices configured in English. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish will follow in October. Siri AI can leverage personal context from messages, emails, and photos to respond to queries. It can also interpret information displayed on the screen. Cloud-based tasks utilize Private Cloud Compute, while other functionalities are handled directly on the device.

Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, with the Pro Max beginning at $1,299. Customers may select storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Available finishes include black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Preorders open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12. The first wave of markets will see retail availability on September 18, with an additional 20 countries and regions joining in on September 25.
