Hugging Face hosts a prominent platform dedicated to artificial intelligence models, datasets, software libraries, and developer tools. Nvidia reports that this platform has over 18 million users, including developers, researchers, and creators. The platform contains more than 3 million models and about 500,000 datasets, offering access to over 1 million applications used in AI development. More than 200,000 companies utilize Hugging Face’s services to discover, evaluate, customize, and implement AI solutions across varied computing environments.

According to the companies, Hugging Face will continue to support multiple models, frameworks, cloud providers, and hardware platforms post-acquisition. Developers will not be required to use Nvidia hardware to access the platform. The company will persist in supporting open-source and open-weight models from diverse providers. Compatibility with multiple cloud services and accelerator hardware will also be maintained. Nvidia stated that the platform will keep supporting silicon vendors beyond its own products as part of the commitments related to the deal.

Open AI platform commitments remain in place

Hugging Face was founded in 2016 by Clément Delangue, Julien Chaumond, and Thomas Wolf. Since then, it has expanded its services to include model hosting, datasets, developer libraries, and cloud-based AI tools. The company reached a valuation of $4.5 billion during a funding round in August 2023, raising $235 million from technology investors. Prior to the acquisition, Nvidia and Hugging Face collaborated on projects linking developers with Nvidia’s computing infrastructure and software tools.

Nvidia disclosed the acquisition agreement in a Form 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on September 3, 2026. The filing confirms that the deal remains under review and has not yet been finalized. Its completion depends on regulatory approvals and standard closing conditions. Nvidia also detailed operational commitments concerning Hugging Face post-transaction, including ongoing access to models and datasets, multi-cloud support, and compatibility with hardware from other semiconductor manufacturers.

Nvidia aims for deal closure in the first half of 2027

Nvidia already maintains a significant footprint within Hugging Face’s developer community. The company reports having uploaded over 500 models and more than 250 open datasets to the platform. It also provides software libraries and tools that users can adapt for their AI projects. Hugging Face facilitates model discovery, evaluation, customization, and deployment. Its platform serves enterprises, research entities, and independent developers involved in machine learning, generative AI, and other artificial intelligence applications.

The $12.93 billion Nvidia acquisition of Hugging Face will remain subject to review until all conditions for closing are satisfied. Nvidia expects the transaction to conclude during the first half of 2027. Under the announced commitments, Hugging Face will continue supporting developers across various models, cloud platforms, frameworks, and hardware environments. The platform will also retain its multi-cloud and multi-accelerator strategy. Until the deal is finalized, Nvidia and Hugging Face will operate independently under the terms set in their agreement.
