ATHENS, Greece / RankWire.AI / – The United Arab Emirates intends to infuse an extra €15 billion into Greece through a collaborative investment effort between the two nations. The declaration was made on October 22 during the official visit of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, to Athens. This new pledge expands upon a €4 billion initiative launched in May 2022 and seeks to strengthen both economic and strategic relationships.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, this expansion aims to enhance cooperation across sectors considered vital and prioritized for development by both countries. The initial initiative established a framework for joint investments in areas of shared interest, which has already facilitated major deals in energy and healthcare. Officials indicated that these outcomes demonstrated how the partnership could translate economic prospects into concrete investments. The additional funds complement the existing structure.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Prime Minister’s Office in Athens. Their discussions focused on ways to elevate collaboration in energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and advanced technology sectors. They also examined regional and international issues, emphasizing the significance of bolstering security, peace, and stability. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis greeted the Crown Prince upon his arrival at Athens International Airport. The visit underscores the ongoing enhancement of bilateral ties.
Strategic Forum Secures €12.75 Billion in New Agreements
The visit coincided with the UAE-Greece Strategic Forum held in Athens. During the event, multiple agreements and commercial collaborations exceeding €12.75 billion were signed between UAE and Greek organizations. These agreements encompass sectors like digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, manufacturing, logistics, ports, healthcare, life sciences, and food security. It’s important to note that these accords are separate from the €15 billion investment plan. Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis participated in the forum alongside senior officials from both governments.
UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi highlighted that these agreements and the new €15 billion investment reflect growing confidence between the two economies. He emphasized that the current goal is to convert that momentum into actionable projects. Al Zeyoudi described the UAE as a hub for trade, investment, and connectivity, and regarded Greece as a gateway to Europe. Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theoharis also attended the forum.
Greece Positioned as a Strategic Access Point to European Markets
The UAE expressed that its decision to increase investment in Greece stems from confidence in Greece’s economic and investment potential. The country’s strategic geographic location and its function as a link between European markets and regional/international economies were cited as key advantages. The expanded initiative aims to deepen cooperation between investment bodies and enterprises from both nations, while also fostering innovation and the exchange of expertise. Its purpose is to open new channels for investment opportunities.
This announcement is part of a broader UAE strategy to establish enduring investment partnerships across Europe. In September, the UAE announced a €40 billion investment package for Germany covering various industries. Additionally, talks with other European nations such as Italy have intensified. Officials indicated that Greece’s initiative paves the way for a new phase of cooperation that extends beyond mere financial commitments.
